Rotoscoping Shot

I did this shot as part of learning to be more efficient and effective in rotoscoping techniques as well as learning how to use Silhouette FX software. I improved upon keyframe placement and what roto shapes and sizes to use for fluid animation.

3D Modeling Showreel

A mixture of different models from various shots.

Honours Project – Grand Central, New York City 1979

A research-intensive shot. I started out with footage from Grand Central, NYC in 2014 and investigated what changes needed to be made to create the look and feeling of it being 1979.

This involved looking at relevant old pictures of NYC, making notes of the general look and mood of the time. I noted bigger details like the change in the condition of the building and smaller ones like the exact font used for the road signs outside. Street furniture and vehicles had to be modelled and textured to accurately capture the era.

Tornado Alley

This was a three shot VFX sequence group project. Inspired by central America’s Tornado Alley countryside we made use of digital matte painting created by my co-worker.

Teamwork was a major part of this project for which we used Team Viewer and had frequent look development sessions to discuss the direction of the project and maintain its cohesion.

To manage the project, I created a Trello board which managed research, shot tasks and division of work and a Google calendar which we used to schedule deadlines. I created the destruction of a barn using Houdini, keyed and rotoscoped all shots and was responsible for the composite.

Sci-Fi Corridor

An extensive 3D group project influenced by the Alien films and Alien Isolation game in which we made use of interactive lighting on greenscreen, matching it in 3D. Working closely with my co worker we coordinated to model, UV unwrap and texture the scene from scratch.

We divided the work evenly and so had to actively manage the primary file’s integrity due to the differing file versions produced. We had to balance render time with shot quality due to the interior lighting and high detail of the scene.

About

About

A driven VFX artist with a detailed knowledge of the production pipeline gained through producing a range of complex visual effects projects.

I have also worked on several commercial productions both as a camera assistant and VFX supervisor, providing valuable experience of the professional work environment.

A serial problem solver, I am enthusiastic about finding creative ways to produce and finish a shot. I am very conscientious and able to concentrate on minute detail where required.

Good at working on my own initiative and contributing to and helping others as part of a team. I also have great organisational and leadership skills and generally managed the administrative aspects of group degree projects.
